Kira was welcomed into Cherry Cherry in September 2017 on a placement year from Brunel University where she is studying for her BSc in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics.
Working with the team in our 3D suite, she is specialising in Maya and Nuke.
Kira’s interest in CGI stems from a love of the Harry Potter movies and seeing dragons, quidditch and countless other elements coming to life was the spark of interest that has propelled her to discover more about this world.
Her degree may be a very broad ranging one, with modules in everything from pre-production right through to post, but the one that really caught Kira’s imagination was a 2nd year module working on CGI.
Also enjoying the production aspects – the art of creation is definitely something Kira seems intent on learning most about and her skills are already a credit to her so early in her career.
The recent Vax project we worked on at Cherry Cherry was the first major job for Kira, who was given two shots to do, and this was a huge learning curve for her. The responsibility of the job, coupled with the technical demands meant she learnt a lot more than she had before. New knowledge was quickly garnered in general production process, from who to speak to, to pipelines and naming conventions, and just how important they all are to the smooth running of a workload.
Working alongside a talented team has also been invaluable, watching the team in action figure out a job has been inspiring, and being taught software shortcuts and hot keys as well as work flow has been a real joy for Kira, as well as sometimes even teaching the old dogs new tricks herself!
Although Kira will be going back to Uni in August, she has really enjoyed the placement, as have we and we hope to welcome her back very soon!
